AI Should Help Us Make Better Decisions, Not Just Work Faster

October 5, 2026 · Keith Pasley

I came across a story about a job seeker who used AI to track patterns in job rejections.

What caught my attention wasn’t the use of AI.

It was how it was used.

Instead of simply asking AI to write better résumés or generate more applications, the person used it to analyze what wasn’t working and change the job-search strategy.

That’s a useful lesson for enterprise AI.

A lot of AI investment is focused on helping people do the same work faster.

Write faster. Analyze faster. Respond faster. Automate more.

Those things have value.

But AI becomes much more interesting when it helps us recognize that we should make a different decision.

That’s the opportunity I think executives should look for.

Executive takeaway: Look for AI use cases that create a feedback loop: capture outcomes, identify patterns, challenge assumptions and improve the next decision. That’s a higher bar than automation, but potentially a much more valuable

Technology does not create business value. Better decisions do.
