Your AI Policy Probably Isn’t Your AI Governance

September 17, 2026 · Keith Pasley

Here’s something we probably don’t say enough about AI governance.

Your employees aren’t waiting for the governance committee.

They’re using ChatGPT. Copilot. Claude. Gemini. And whatever new tool solved their problem this morning.

So an executive can have a very good AI policy and still have very little idea what is actually happening.

That’s why F5 Workforce AI Security caught my attention.

It starts with a less comfortable question:

Can you actually see how AI is being used across the business?

Not what employees say they use.
Not what IT approved.
What they’re actually using.

Which AI. What data. For what purpose. And increasingly, what agents are doing on their behalf.

We spent years learning that you can’t secure what you can’t see.

AI governance may be heading toward the same lesson.

A policy is not a control.
